Capstone project for Product Discovery

Why do partner shops still phone?

About a third of Mangrove Market's 1,800 partner shops still order by phoning their sales rep instead of using the Partner app. Run a two-week discovery to find out why, and what the partner team should do about it. Interview five shop owners (classmates or friends can role-play Ravi and his peers from this brief), observe one ordering session live or from a recording, and tag 200 support tickets, writing a realistic sample set if you have none. Build an opportunity solution tree under the outcome "share of partner orders placed in the app", map the assumptions behind your best solutions, and test the riskiest one with a fake door, a concierge test or an AI prototype. Finish with a one-page decision for the partner team.

What you hand in

  1. Five interview snapshots and one set of timed field notes from an ordering session
  2. A tagged sample of 200 support tickets with your codebook, and a service blueprint of phone ordering with the workarounds marked
  3. An opportunity solution tree with a target opportunity, three rival solutions and an assumptions map
  4. A test card written before the test, and the results of the test you ran
  5. A one-page decision: what you learned, what to build next, and which belief you have dropped

Check your work

Tick each item when your project meets it. Be strict: this is the rubric the reviewer uses.

  • Every finding traces to a specific past event, note or ticket, and is counted by people, not mentions
  • Interviewees were chosen by behaviour, and you say which group your sources could not hear
  • Opportunities are written as needs in the shop owner's words, not as features
  • The blueprint shows the backstage handoffs and puts a cost on at least one workaround
  • The target opportunity has at least three rival solutions
  • The pass mark was written before the test, and the result is reported against it
  • Any AI use is described, with how you checked its output and kept data safe
  • The decision names one belief you dropped and the next test you will run

The model answer opens once your capstone passes the review, so you can compare your work with an outline of a strong submission.

Hand in your capstone

Your links are checked automatically, then the work is scored against the rubric above, item by item, with comments. A pass counts toward the course certificate and shows on your profile.
