Capstone project for Software Development: Idea to App
Ship a reorder app for partner shops
About 4,000 partner orders a week reach Mangrove Market, and many shop owners order nearly the same items every week, often by phoning a sales rep. Imran, the product manager for the Partner app, wants to test a small reorder app before Lagoon Digital builds the feature into the main app. Build and ship it: a shop owner signs in, sees their last orders, repeats one in three taps with quantities they can adjust, and sees the order's status, plus a short weekly summary of what they ordered. Work like a small team: start from a one-page spec, test the screen flow with at least one real person before coding, build an API with a database and a mobile or web front end, test what matters, deploy from CI, and put it in front of at least three real users. Finish with a short report of what they did and what you would change next.
What you hand in
- A one-page spec with users, problem, goals, non-goals, the smallest useful version and success measures
- A screen flow (sketches or a prototype) and notes from at least one usability test
- A public repository with the API, database migrations and a mobile or web app
- Automated unit and API tests plus one end-to-end test of the reorder flow, running in CI, and a deploy from CI
- A launch report: who tried it, what the numbers and feedback said, and the next iteration
Check your work
Tick each item when your project meets it. Be strict: this is the rubric the reviewer uses.
- The spec names the users and the problem with evidence, has measurable goals and explicit non-goals, and the smallest version fits in a few weeks
- The screen flow was tested with at least one real person before building, and the notes show what changed because of it
- The data model and endpoints cover shops, orders, items and status, with money as integer cents and validated inputs
- The core reorder flow has unit, API and one end-to-end test, and they run on every pull request
- Deploys run from CI after the checks pass, with separate staging and production settings and a written way back
- The app handles a slow or failed network on the reorder screen without losing or doubling the order
- At least three real users tried it, and the launch report shows what they did, what they said and what changes next
